Gleaner Ministry History
The World Crowns success; but God crowns faithfulness. The Gleaner Board was organized on March 28, 1968 by Reverend James M. Lee, then Pastor of Colossian Baptist Church. It was his desire that the Gleaners would support the Ushers in lifting the consecrated and missionary offerings. The Board was installed on April 10, 1968. The first officers were: President, Sister Lillian Edlow, Vice-President, Sister Jeanette Parker, Secretary, Sister Georgia Ashe, and Liaison, Deacon Robert Smith.
The Gleaner Board presented Colossian Baptist Church with the Christian and American flags. They also assisted the Missionary Board in the purchasing of offering plates. Uniform colors were first established as gold. After six alterations the Gleaners now wear navy blue suits with white blouses in the winter and white suits with blue blouses in the summer.
The Gleaners serve each Sunday at 8:00 and 11:30AM worship services with the exception of the first Sunday of each month at 11:30. This is the Sunday reserved for Youth Day and the youth of the church glean accordingly. Board meetings convene every third Wednesday. Monies collected as dues are used to support the church building fund and the church anniversary.
Activities of 1999 include the following: collecting eyeglasses for recycling and distribution to the needy, sponsoring annual prayer breakfast, supporting all other church ministries when asked, prepare an deliver Easter baskets, and fruit baskets during the Christmas holidays to the sick and shut-in members.
In 2001 the Gleaner Ministry sponsored the play "Women of Distinction". We purchased new offering plats, held a brunch for our honorary members and prepared and delivered our annual Easter and Christmas baskets.
Beginning September 2004 the Gleaners serve every Sunday and board meetings convene every 2"d Tuesday.
In 2007, members of the Gleaner Ministry along with other church members took on the project of setting up our Library. The prayer breakfast was outstanding and very successful. In November we held a play entitled "Use Me Lord". Gleaner Christine Fuller was on to the writers and a co-director. This wonderful play brought souls to Christ. God can use us no matter what situations we find ourselves in.
We thank God for the past 39 years and pray that He will continue to guide our footsteps as we work to help our church and community.

Lord, when I sense Your call to serve, Help me to follow through; I must not just stand by and pray, When there is work to do.
